In the Fall of 1968, BUS organized, along with Students for a Democratic Society (also chartered as a KSU student org. in May of 1968), to block the recruitment of officers by the Oakland California Police Department on the Kent State campus on November 13, 1968. BUS and SDS students were particularly concerned with the Oakland Police Department’s use of violence against the Black Panther Party (On April 6, 1968 the Oakland Police had killed 17-year-old Bobby Hutton.)
